Silicone is essentially a synthetic rubber, not a plastic, even though the two share some surface similarities. We use it for its durability, nonstick and stain-resistant properties, and hard-wearing nature — it also cools quickly and tolerates temperature extremes, and its long usable life reduces the need for single-use plastics.
A quick note on certifications: we only make a certification or premium-grade claim (like LFGB, FDA, or platinum-cured) when it's actually been confirmed for that specific product — you'll see it stated on the product's own listing. If a listing doesn't mention a particular certification, it's best to check with us directly rather than assume either way, since it just means that one hasn't been verified for that item yet, not that it's automatically included or excluded.
Many of our silicone products and components are LFGB and FDA certified, and comply with Australian Standard AS2070:1999 — check the specific product's listing to confirm this for the item you're after.
Not all silicone is graded the same way, either — much like there are different grades of plastic, silicone itself varies in purity and curing method. Platinum-cured silicone is a premium grade, valued for its durability, heat and wear resistance, and reduced tendency to retain odours compared to other curing methods. We can confirm our Silicone Freezer Trays/Moulds and Reusable Stretch Lids are made from platinum-cured silicone. We're currently reviewing the rest of our silicone range individually, and we'll only make this claim once it's genuinely verified for each product.
