Traditionally, compost bins have been restricted to large bins kept outdoors due to the smell of the waste within, but innovations like ours make it easy to keep composting material in the home.

What can I put in it?
Compost bins are for food waste, most commonly vegetables and fruit. Egg shells can also be composted and are useful for adding calcium to soil mixes. Coffee grounds and loose tea leaves are helpful too. As a simple rule of thumb: anything that's made from nature can go back to nature, food scraps, cardboard, and plant-based cleaning cloths are all fine. Avoid non-plant-based or non-compostable materials.

What are biodegradable bin liners, and do I need one?
Our biodegradable bin liners are a great addition to your composting setup, they degrade in your compost bin, reducing the mess of moving your compost to the outside bin. They comply with the Australian Standard AS4736, so they'll biodegrade in any environment with oxygen and microorganisms, on land or in water.

Caring for the charcoal filter
The charcoal filter is what keeps your kitchen smelling fresh, so a little care keeps it working well:

• Material: made from nylon, chosen for durability and easy washing.
• Washing: place the filter in a bowl of warm soapy water and gently swish side to side. Remove, pat dry, and leave in a flat, sunny spot to air dry before reassembly. Avoid squeezing, wringing, twisting, or hanging the filter, as this can misshape it.
• Lifespan: the filter is designed to be washed and reused, not replaced after every use, we recommend washing it after each time you empty the bin.
• Replacements: if your filter is lost, misplaced, or has reached the end of its usable life, we sell replacement filters separately, just make sure you order the one that matches your bin.
